A fast moving business needs a brand with the same energy. We helped Bluecurrent evolve its story and identity into a living expression of its ambition and purpose.
The Brief
Bluecurrent was established as a joint venture in 2023, with the ambition to become Australasia’s leading smart metering company. The visual identity to take the new business to market was developed quickly.
18 months on from launch, Bluecurrent engaged us to evolve and strengthen its story; moving from a launch identity to a living, breathing brand that reflected the company’s expanding capability and growing presence. Our brief was to bring the brand to life by elevating how Bluecurrent enables energy retailers, distributors and consumers to achieve their goals today while planning for a more sustainable tomorrow.
The Solution
Together, we’ve delivered more than 75 projects in just the first year, a scale of collaboration that speaks to the speed and ambition of the business.
We began by revisiting the brand story and positioning. Working with the Bluecurrent team, we shifted the narrative from a technical ‘what we do’ perspective to a people‑centred, benefits-led story about enablement and partnership. We developed clear messaging frameworks for who Bluecurrent is, what it does, what it stands for, and for each of its evolving product sets.
The visual identity was the next evolution. Building on the foundations created at launch, we developed a flexible page-layout system, a richer suite of photography and new graphic styles to make the brand feel more human, energetic and approachable, while maintaining its technology‑driven edge. The updated design language, tone and usage guidance were captured in a new set of interactive guidelines.
Over the last year, we’ve produced a comprehensive set of brand assets and communication tools to support Bluecurrent’s fast‑moving activities, including:
- Presentation templates for sales, marketing and leadership storytelling
- Rewritten and redesigned the website's homepage to better express the brand promise and market offer
- A full range of sales, marketing and display materials
- Event and advertising promotions
- Videos and animations for new offerings such as DLC and NODs and the expanding water metering portfolio
- Branded merchandise to build market presence
- Communication materials for a company acquisition and rebrand integration
Internally, we brought the brand to life to engage and connect with a diverse team spread across New Zealand and Australia. We translated the values into tangible expressions across the intranet, the new Christchurch office environment, and everyday tools such as notebooks and a refreshed Code of Conduct.
The Results
In every channel, Bluecurrent presents as a connected, modern and credible energy technology partner, quickly creating a distinctive brand that is becoming recognised and trusted. While there’s still more to do, the foundations are firmly in place. Together, we’ve established the platform to drive cohesive and confident brand and communication activity that supports and enables Bluecurrent’s accelerating business activities.
